Terragen originally started off as a genetic engineering company contracted by the EU and United States governments to develop a strong ecosystem for the planet Mars. The company had a rousing success on Mars and were quickly hired to provide their services on bodies throughout human space.
History[]
Terragen was first founded in the year 2018. Their first project was genetically altering cows in many food production centers around Earth to increase their meat output and decrease their methane output. Farmers paid them billions to genetically alter their crops and livestock to increase their food output.
Their second major project was in 2025 when the UN contracted them to alter wild species around the Earth to combat global climate change. Terragen increased the oxygen output of many different species of plants, made plants much more durable against pollutants or oils, and even made some plants able to absorb pollutants. With the work of Terragen Earth had a healthy, stable climate by the year 2030.

Nine years later they were then contracted to begin developing an entire ecosystem for the planet Mars.
Ten years after the planet Aeros was settled, the colonists contacted Terragen in the hopes that they could terraform their world.
In the year 2101 the Terragen headquarters was moved from London to the Martian city of Terra Cotta.
Throughout the next 300 years Terragen honed their genetic skills by creating biospheres on habitable worlds such as Njord, Surtr or Hercules. The company made trillions off of frontier worlds and gave many worlds a means of agricultural sustenance. In 2349 Terragen began a full-blown terraforming project on the planet Mintaka Prime. Their first, and what the company stated many times would be the fastest terraforming project to ever happen. The company moved their headquarters from Mars to Mintaka Prime.
In the year 2545 the company's terraforming of Mintaka Prime was completed. Due to their faster, cheaper techniques however it was not ideal. The company covered it up by offering to pay for any of the colonists medical issues that arose from the environment of Mintaka Prime as well as giving them a small restitution payment for their silence. For the next 100 years Terragen began dozens of terraforming projects and built countless ecosystems and many new colonies throughout the expanding human empire. In the year 2679 however war erupted throughout the UFSS. Many Terragen projects were attacked or the colonists that Terragen worked with rioted and rebelled. The company headquarters was utterly obliterated. The company was nearly forced to dissolve in the year 2679. To this day dozens of worlds past the Horse Nebula are only half terraformed, some still have inhabitants and others are abandoned. It was only due to the UFSS's need and funding that the company was able to survive. In the year 2680, despite the raging rebellion the company established a new headquarters on the world Hercules.
Today Terragen has fallen in reclusion. More versatile terraforming companies have taken their place and Terragen runs a meager business of modifying ecosystems on backwater worlds in the Confederacy.
Philosophy[]
Terragen started as a world building company. They wanted to change the environment of Earth for the better. They succeeded by complying with the major food companies wishes. As such Terragen's policies have always leaned towards making ecosystems that are more economical rather than safe. Due to this fact they did make many rich agricultural worlds in the first half of the First Age. But when Terragen began complete terraforming in the mid 24th century their practices made their worlds more friendly towards big food companies and less friendly towards the colonists.
Operations[]
At the height of their power Terragen was contracted to countless worlds beyond the Horse Nebula creating ecosystems and doing minor terraforming projects. The company's estimated value was at 56 trillion dollars by the year 2670.
