Gamma Nova (RS8409-1353-7-1368010-268 2) is a temperate temperate terra planet found 436 light years from Earth towards the Pleiades open star cluster.

Gamma Nova was discovered in 2119 by a team of British astronomers during a long-going project to find Earth-like planets for colonisation companies. Its atmosphere was studied in 2120 and was found to have 30% oxygen and 69% nitrogen, with less than 1% of other trace gases.

The main discoverer, Gemma Retaia, had been chosen to colonise the planet with a crew of another seven which was constructed and sent to the planet on 21st October 2325. A total of eight months was spent in interstellar space and successfully arrived at the planet on 15th May 2326.

Upon arrival at the planet in 2326, ancient, destroyed cities were found in the grasslands. Within the ruined cities were charred corpses of aliens, indicating of a recent - in geological terms - nuclear war that involved every nation on the planet.

It was named by Gemma Retaia in 2326 upon arrival at the planet. She took Gamma from the Greek alphabelt and put Nova into the name which now forms the name: Gamma Nova.

Ancient Civilisation

Scientists were immediately sent to the planet to study the ancient civilisation. They quickly found out that the nuclear war occured about 40,000 years ago. By coincendence, it was soon revealed that a supervolcano had erupted at the same time, causing more deaths than the war itself, which surprised the scientists.

The civilisation was no more powerful than 21st century Humanity with several nations competing for power and experiencing natural disasters such as volcanism, earthquakes and asteroid impacts.

Scientists have concluded that the nuclear war also involved an interstellar civilisation that originated from the Pleiades star cluster which is about 134 light years from the star system.

Human Colony

Humans have been on the planet for at least 7,000 years. In that time, the population, which had been less than a hundred, has now reached a staggering number of 1.5 billion. Scattered across the planet are space elevators that take citizens to geosynchronous orbit where they can depart for trips to interplanetary or interstellar space.

In 4267, scientists that were tracking a large asteroid had announced that the asteroid has a good chance to impact the planet. Within a few years, the asteroid got closer and closer. In 4275, the asteroid had finally exploded within the atmosphere and destroying a major human colony in the southern hemisphere.

Recovery took about fifteen years when the United Federation of Star Systems offered to help with repairs. Soon after this, the first senator to represent Gamma Nova became part of the Confederacy Senate.

Gamma Nova has about six catalogued moons all discovered in 2126 upon the arrival of the first humans. Its largest is a warm selena  world about 1,656 km in diameter. Its other moons are asteroids, possibly captured billions of years ago by the gravitational pull of Gamma Nova.

No-one has insisted of giving the largest moon an official name but some of the humans prefer to call it the Moon, although with different properties to the Earth's moon Luna.
