The Khakilagat are an intelligent energy-based species native to the Janus Network of naturally occurring wormholes found all across the Ambrosia Galaxy. They have theorized to have arisen around the year 880,000,000 BCE, as records show an increased aggression in Bablet expansion around this time, which seems to be in-line with their overall predisposition to the Khakilagat.

Overview

The Khakilagat are one of the most well-known sapient races to have arisen from within the Janus Network, and this is due to several factors. The first and foremost is their tendency to interact with select intelligent species who traverse the Janus Network from the wider Ambrosia Galaxy.

While the second would be the many alliances the Khakilagat would form with said groups they interact with in order for their assistance in the conquering of the various Janus Gateways they wish to invade, usually ones belonging to the Bablet, however some of the other Janus Races have been invaded by them.

Due to their tendency of invading their respective territory, the Bablet hold a great amount of disdain towards the Khakilagat, which they reciprocate in kind, often times waging border wars with their eternal foes. Unlike most conflicts between Janus races, their respective conflicts often times actually lead to fatalities on both sides, as many will be inadvertently killed with the opening and closing of a Janus Gateway. How or why this constant combat between the two started remains unknown to even its respective combatants, but this rivalry has existed for as long as the two have been made aware of each other.

A rather unique trait of the Khakilagat have when compared to most of the other sapient races of the Janus Network is their periodic manifestations outside of the Janus Network, though this only happens in rare circumstances, usually only manifesting to those who hold a large amount of political power within an organization the Khakilagat are currently allied with.

Along with their tendency of seeking allies from beyond the Janus Network, they have been known to combat outsiders as well if they traverse their respective territory within the Network and are deemed as undesirable to the Khakilagat. These, like their interactions outside of the Janus Network are very rare, but their have been documented cases of the Khakilagat closing off access points within the Janus Network to outsiders for various reasons mostly only known to themselves.

Physical

Bassline Biology

The baseline physical appearance of the Khakilagat looks much akin to that of various bipedal humanoid species across Ambrosia, with their bodies appearing as if they are made from a tangled-web of string. They also have a characteristically female appearance, however due to being monogendered, they do not have a concept of other genders beyond the singular one they are known to arise with. The exact composition of the structure their bodies comprise remains unknown to any outside observers, however due to their location, they are believed to be made from the strange physical energies that comprise the structures of the very Janus Gateways they inhabit.

Unlike their rival sister-species of the Bablet, the Khakilagat lack the ability to alter their height or length. Instead, they all have a shared height of around twenty kilometers, making them only be able to inhabit and traverse Janus Gateways the same or greater diameter to their bodies, leaving them unable to colonize much of the Janus Network as there are countless Gateways below this height threshold.

One unique ability the Khakilagat have over their rivals however is the ability to combine their bodies into one larger one. While the exact purpose of this seems suspect, it is believed by some that they use this to intimidate any would be attackers, however given that their main rivals have the ability to change their height at will this would be ultimately pointless. The more plausible reason is that they use this as a form of "relationship" between two or more Khakilagat. The exact nature of these relationships is unknown, however most believe this is a form of romantic closeness as usually only two Khakilagat preform this action.

Janus Network Manipulation

Like all sapient races of the Janus Network, the Khakilagat are able to manipulate the many Gateways that comprise the Janus Network, being able to open and close any nearby Gateways to themselves at will, as well as being able to traverse them by weaving themselves alongside the "walls" that make up the Gateway. However also much alike all member species of the Janus Network, they are unable to create wholly new Janus Gateways themselves, as they seem to be created at complete random outside of any sapient individuals influence.

Their senses seem to be tied to the respective Gateway the Khakilagat are currently located within as well, being able to sense whenever an object enters within it.
