The Khavoids are whale-like marine mammals that live beneath the ice of Aurantia's moon Chilia, feeding off the planktons, algae and many more sources of nutrients in the water. Khavoids are imported to many worlds that have/had a subsurface oceans nearby. The Khavoids are classified as an Early Type-0 civilization. While primitive, Khavoid sare highly intelligent, rivaling with various primates in terms of intelligence.

Physical

Skeletal Structure

The composition of Khavoidian bone differs from that of most terrestrial creatures. While most animals have calcium-based bones, the waters of Chilia lack this metal, resulting in thinner and weaker bones than average marine mammals. Bones are frequently replaced by firm strips of cartilage, allowing calcium to be utilized in other processes. They entirely lack a jawbone for this reason.

The cranial cavity is the most prominent feature of a Khavoidian skull, as seen by a protrusion of the brow around the spine-nervous system junction. The front of the skull tapers to a point, probably for better hydrodynamics and a lower profile. While the Khavoids lack a jawbone, they can open and close their mouths via a set of cartilage strips connected by muscles. Like most vertebrates, their spines are segmented and bind a rib cage to protect sensitive organs. The forward flippers' joints are opposable and flexible, whereas the rear flippers' joints are less so and are largely employed for mobility. The flippers are mostly made of flat bone that ranges in thickness from 3 millimeters to 2 centimeters, thinnest at the back edge and thickest at the attachment to the Patria, a little bone that connects the flipper to its's shoulder. Khavoid's single tail is around half a meter long when measured from the tip of the cranium to the hipbones. The tail has five bones, two of which connect the base of the fluke to the spine and the other three of which create the fluke itself

Internal Organs

The Khavoids have a variety of organs, such as gills for breathing and digestive systems for food processing. They eat small algae and crustaceans that they catch with their baleen system and defecate through a hole in their mid-lower abdomen. Their gills are above and behind their head, and they have a central heart. Khavoidian blood is copper-based, allowing them to adapt to the freezing temperatures of Chilia's natural climate. Khavoids, like whales, use on echolocation and other vibrations for navigation and communication. However, they are completely blind because sunlight cannot penetrate the thick ice layer of Chilia.

Instead of eyes, they have two hyper-sensitive lobes that employ echolocation rather than light waves to "see." This enables them to navigate the dark waters of Chilia far more effectively than "regular" sight could. These organs are housed in holes in the skull. These holes lead directly to the brain, allowing information from these lobes to be processed quickly.

Behavior

Khavoids spend most of their lives gradually gliding in the lowest depths of the Chilian oceans, only rarely coming closer to the sea-level. Unaffected by all almost all of the events happening on Chilia, they spend their lives thinking that their tiny ocean is all that is, and ever will be.

As highly intelligent animals, Khavoids are especially aware of their surroundings, and travel in loose pods for protection against the environment and even larger carnivorous lifeforms, and to drive the prey toward the pod. Despite this initial co-operation, the actual hunt itself is performed independently of the other pod members, cooperation only resuming when prey needs to be driven towards the pod once again.
