"Letoria? Never heard of that planet before, but it seems to be really far from the reaches of the Ambrosia Alliance. Then it's a world probably full of criminals and those who don't want to be maliciously persecuted." - Rosiv Jennus, 10,406 CE.
Letoria (pronounced: Lee-toh-ree-ah), is a mineral-rich planet and the home of the now extinct Gurshoo. It serves as a hot spot for those who want to live away from most, if not all of the Ambrosia Galaxy. This world has its own security force known as the Letorian Protective Authority, founded by rogue admiral Hudne Valterdan after she defected from the HAA and discovered together with her fleet that Letoria is an independent wealthy planet.
Once unclaimed, the planet was finally claimed millions of years after its formation in the late 10,300s. Hudne founded the LPA since she already had ongoing plans to establish an isolated government centered on the planet, taking heavy inspiration from the planetary government of Nativia. The royal family known as the House Valterdan rules this world as it is its birthplace.
Having a namesake similar to the one of its moon Marunt, the planet is named in honor of the Hypernova XVII-class attack cruiser known as Letoria's Concordance, the commanding ship of the Hudne's own fleet.
Letoria is a cold, remote world with a surface covered almost entirely in malachite crystals and large reserves of iron. Though dominated by crystalline forests, it also features salt flats/dried up lakes, mountains and ferrous polar deserts. It is classifed as a cool arid subferria. As a result of the temperature below Letoria's surface being close to -14 °C, liquid water was found underground. The planet has a weak magnetic field because of its relatively stable core, also meaning there isn't much geological activity going on. The insane amount of iron and gemstones on the surface make Letoria alone one of the wealthiest worlds in the Ambrosia Galaxy. It has one moon known as Marunt, which used to be a rogue planet. A few Ugnara have visited this planet as it shares a somewhat resemblance with pre-terraformed Ertaka. It used to be unknown what caused the letorian sand to be red, but, as of recently, it was discovered that high quantities of iron oxide are present on them, giving the red tint. That strange kind of sand is referred to as “redsand” by the Letorians. These previously mentioned crystalline forests, which occupy 40% of Letoria's surface, are known as “crystallias”.
Letoria used to have multicellular life until the year 103 CE when a still highly uncovered extinction event followed. One life form stood out from all others, the Gurshoo. They evolved six thousand years before letorian colonization began. Because of the cold weather, most animals had furs covering their skin so their body temperatures would get warmer contrary to the natural climate surrounding them. Life developed very fast because of how far away Letoria is from its orange giant Marrakel, despite the young age. As of now, only unicellular organisms exist present in Letoria's deep watery cave systems where geological activity is more prominent and the temperatures aren't as cold as on the crust. This was all studied by archaeologist Cazomell Valterdan during an expedition to the Letorian Arctic. The ancient dominant species of Letoria got their name from when a group of archaeologists scanned the throat in the grouped fossil of an ancient member of the species, the sound produced for the first time in 6,000 years was heard as someone saying “Gurshoo” with a low timbre voice.
With a toxic atmosphere comprised of carbon dioxide (94.9%), xenon (2.65%), propane (1.46%) and sulfur dioxide (0.973%), it isn't breathable for Humans but it is for CO2-breathing species like the Zythyns. It's taller than Earth's atmosphere as it stretches to 28 kilometers above the surface, which results in a survivable pressure of 1.8 times the terran atmosphere.
Although being an “inactive” desert world, massive storms of malachite dust and xenon snow have been responsible for shaping the letorian surface. Because of the planet being so far away from its parent star, it's locked in a never-ending ice age that began about 370,000 years ago. With storms ranging from frigid polar snowstorms to xenon snowfalls, the unfortunate climate of this world rendered it uninhabitable for some species that come in without a protective suit or breathing mask. In fact, all cities on Letoria are domed, being located either on the surface or underground.
Being the solitary capital of the Ambrosia Galaxy's Letorian Sector, long ago its parent star was ejected from the galactic disk, reasoning why the Marrakel System is located within the so-called dark matter halo. This fact contributes to the spectacular view you can get of the whole Ambrosia when looking at the night sky from Letoria's surface. The Oqahalan System is the closest major system to the planet, housing the two planets of Lyssend & Dlaa Dlor, which serve as strategic outposts to the LPA. They are at a distance of 6.91 light-years from Letoria.
Letoria was initially used as a minor installation for mining operations due to the quantities of malachite, however with the declaration of independence of the Marrakel System, mining would still continue but now drastically reduced. What remained was reused for buildings, mainly the Valterdan Crystal Palace, where Hudne's body was guarded after her death. All letorian buildings are crystalline malachite-based to contrast with the landscape, and also more interestingly to act as a camouflaging tactic in case of planetary invasion, so the attackers will not know where the local inhabitants are.
The Letorian culture is very dedicated to either protecting its world or preserving its minerals of valuable cost, as their isolationism is often concerning to the population of its colony worlds due to not importing weapons from superpowers that much. However, there were some cases of immigrants that purchased weapons illegally from Ugnara members, such an act can led the individual into death penalty because of that being the cause of Hudne Valterdan's death. Purchasing weapons legally is, obviously, allowed on Letoria though, but if the buyer displays suspicious actions with his/her weapon, the purchase is frowned upon.
All cities that sustain Human populations there are domed due to the lack of oxygen in the atmosphere. However, some can be courageous enough to remain over a week outside domes, only surviving with a breathing mask. Those who managed to survive have become a new Human subspecies which does not need oxygen or water. There are (and were) roughly 11 intelligent species that immigrated to Letoria, 5 being native to Ambrosia and 6 from galaxies millions of light-years away. Most species immigrated to Letoria to seek better living conditions (Hudne's species the Rimal) or just to study the planet from up close (the Ugnara). Some immigrated to there for more specific reasons; One prime example would be the Akarti, which were responsible for constructing most Letorian settlements, whereas the Zythyns and the Ainanna came as traders from the Lowzyol Federacy looking for economic interests. There were a few criminal factions spread across the planet, since it was a popular destination amongst various Ambrosian gangsters, including Rugglenek Trat-Trat, the infamous last known member of the Sormaldr. Numbers vary from 7 to 4 in letorian gangs. See below the only known one out of those. Many had a monopoly on getting aliens to Letoria illegally. All of their members are now in life imprisonment on the prison moon of Heydaum.
Despite little being known about the earlier history of this world, its oldest geological formations seem to have formed 1.49 million years ago, or that is, in 1,290,000 BCE. Like the other planets in the system, it is suggested that Letoria formed in the small proto-planetary disk surrounding Marrakel when it was still an infant B-type star.
The oldest evidence of life on the planet dates back to 200,000 BCE as a two hundred thousand year-old asteroid debris left from an impact contained fossils of bacterium, indicating that life may have originated through the panspermia process. How water got there is still unknown, but suggested to have been when Fetadok, the 9th planet in the system, launched several of its captured dwarf moons into the inner worlds, with most of those comets & icy asteroids bombarding Letoria & melting the water present on them, creating seas.
It came to be understood that Letoria managed to capture a moon. As archaeologists and scientists collected samples of rocks from Marunt's surface and, surprisingly enough, the oldest ones seemed to be 2 billion years old. That reveals that its moon used to be a rogue planet which got captured by the gravity of Marrakel around 700,000 years ago, entering the system disturbing the orbits of several planets nearby and later on getting captured by Letoria's gravity, therefore giving an orbital companion to the planet. This contributes as to why the said moon has a retrograde orbit and is not tidally locked.
First Colonial Age
The first colonial era of Letoria started in 712 BCE as, according to data collected from a Sorm`ian ship that had crashed into the surface, the planet was accidentally discovered when a two-ship patrol had mistyped its destination. They were to arrive at Lyssend soon after accomplishing a mission on the moon Vylŏsh. Meanwhile as the patrol entered hyperspace, something poisoned the first cruiser's crew via inserting at the vent high amounts of oxygen, a lethal gas for the Sormaldr. That caused it to propagate through all of the ship, killing everyone. The last crewmember sent a message to the second ship detailing about the occurred shortly before dying asphyxiated. No one knows what may have caused the poisoning of the ship's members, but a theory suggests that a Vyssi-Wing spy was behind all of that.
Later on, the message was brought from the second cruiser to commander Dilvok, who was leading a fleet during the major Attack on Hoku-Wale, part of the Sorm`ian dominion's further expanse into the Dryas Cloud. After Dilvok's decisive victory at the battle, he was sent to take care of what had happened, but when he arrived, the previously mentioned ship had already crash landed at Tipanoom, leaving its crew stranded. Since the weapons used by the Sormaldr were all powered by crystals, as the planet is unbelievably rich in that type of minerals, the first mining facility was established near the Salar of Githerus to exploit and extract the valuable malachite.
The population was growing exponentially fast at the new colony world, hundreds and hundreds of workers from allied species originating from countless worlds immigrated to the planet seeking for a new life or job. It would continue to be largely exploited until the native Gurshoo began to revolt in 43 CE. They tried to stop the mining operations by sabotaging them, however the said species would face their extinction in 102 CE during the Gurshoo Genocide, being mass executed by the overwhelming forces of the Sorm`ian Interstellar Hegemony. As an act to prevent future uprisings, all lifeforms were ceased to exist via orbital bombardment.
Second colonial age
Tipanoom experienced a graceful peace period for ten thousand years prior to humanity's arrival at the Ambrosia Galaxy in 10,315 CE and the war that would break out several hundreds of standard years following their settlement on Haven. Under the command of rogue admiral Hudne Valterdan, an 11-ship fleet launched a surprise attack and orbital bombarded the mining refineries already stationed at the tipanoomese surface. The inhabitants only managed to take down two ships using anti-orbital cannons. Without any more remaining weapons, the Sormaldr unconditionally surrendered, bringing an end to their planetary rule after thousands upon thousands of years.
A few weeks following the Battle of Marrakel's end, she occupied it and self-proclaimed its first governor, giving her the freedom of naming this world in honor of her flagship. Years later, she would agree to join the Intergalactic Alliance of United Peoples but only in hopes that technological supplies would be delivered to Letoria, and that her membership within the CoB would be fully in secret, but it wouldn't take too long until while the scavenger Rosiv Jennus was venturing around the Dryas Cloud, she would accidentally discover the Marrakel System and thus making it known to wider public as her entrance to the main planet of the system was rejected in a threatening way. The newly formed Letorian Protective Authority began to venture out expanding beyond the Marrakel System, eventually discovering one life bearing world around the second closest star to Letoria, a red dwarf named Oqahalan. When Hudne arrived at the fourth planet, Lyssend, she noticed the presence of Ussormal beings swimming. Due to their peaceful nature—unlike the Sormaldr's, they were spared and became members of the LPA. In 10,664 CE, the nation's boundaries would be drew, extending to a maximum distance of 16 light-years from Letoria.
The idea of making the planetary government monarchy-styled came into place in 10,687 CE and is responsible for the foundation of the House Valterdan & was initially proposed by Hudne's son Dhekalun Valterdan. Basically he had said was that making the LPA a constitutional monarchy would bring more interest and people to the nation, seeking to study its origins and culture, and mainly to make the population work so more governmental weapons could be manufactured. This proved out to work really well and drove the planet into a sudden population explosion due to the mining deposits of valuable minerals. Attention from colonists of nearby star systems and subsequently, inhabitants from the Ugnara Clans and even Glitter Territories somehow became inevitable. The population finally the hit one billion individuals mark by the year 12,319 CE, a milestone of which, to commemorate, the LPA built a large palace known as the Valterdan Crystal Palace, which receives 27 million visitors every year. but after some time Letoria went forgotten by many and the population's rate of growth lowered significantly. By 95,220 CE, it peaked at 1.6 billion inhabitants. In the current time, it is stabilized at 2.7 billion. The increase in populace was the reason for the construction of several industrial centers, mainly the Laportas Station or the ZORGUS-13 Crystal Refinery, and points of interest such as the hyper-advanced observatory on the city of Qeral-Observatoria, the most visited place on the planet. Most species that immigrated to there mainly came from desert worlds with scarce water.
At the late morning of August 23rd, 10,821 CE, a tragic event in Letoria's history suddenly happened. Hudne was welcoming Zythyn immigrants to the planet when suddenly, one of them revealed himself to be a Sormaldr crime lord named Rugglenek Trat-Trat disguised in the dead corpse of a Zythyn that attempted to bribe him. She was not prepared for this, and thus was brutally bitten in the legs, quickly losing a high amount of blood. Rugglenek then left an opening on the domed area where Hudne was, leading to her immediate asphyxiation followed by death. Days later, her body was found and buried on a high-secured room within the Valterdan Crystal Palace. Her son entered a deep depression after discovering that his mother had been assassinated. The consequences that followed her death were the first elections deciding the next governor of Letoria, the extinction of the Sormaldr following the death of the species' last member as well as the entire Letorian population mourning to her death.
