The Lowiras Galaxy is a tiny irregular galaxy and the closest galaxy of any size to the Florathel Galaxy. The galaxy's most interesting physical feature is its incredibly high concentration of interstellar dust, making navigation incredibly difficult and mapping next to impossible. Because of its tiny size, only three contacted species call it home, although the ancient Lowiras Overlords are often considered to belong to a fourth. The State of Lowiras claims the entire galaxy and a small portion of the Florathel Halo, and has full control over the Clear Zones.

Due to the recent Griyosht revolt from the rule of the Lowiras Overlords, the galaxy is not very well developed. The population, lulled into complacency by the "hypnotic" powers of the Overlords until their downfall, is not all that high, and is incredibly spread out. At only ninteen million stars, it is the smallest important satellite of Florathel.

Two important species within the Lowiras Galaxy are the Griyosht, who had a natural immunity to the powers of the Lowiras Overlords, and the Krazalans, who make up the majority of the galactic population. Incredibly recently, Marwanism has spread to the galaxy and is beginning to take hold among its populace.

Galactic Neighborhood

The Lowiras Galaxy is located incredibly close to the Florathel Galaxy. Despite this, it took an unusually long time to discover from outside itself due to its incredibly low surface brightness. It currently orbits approximately 223,000 light-years from The Heart of Providence near the periapsis of its highly elliptical orbit about the galaxy.

Name

The Lowiras Galaxy was named by the Lowiras Overlords when they ruled the entire place, after themselves. The newly freed populace has yet to choose a new name for it.

Astrography

The Lowiras Galaxy is divided into four non-arbitrary regions. These are as follows:

  • Dark Core
  • Dusty Regions
  • Clear Zones
  • Halo

Dark Core

The Dark Core is one of the most dangerous and unknowable regions in the universe. Not a single spacecraft has ever returned from it. Survey probes sent in show severely conflicting readings for the position of the supermassive black hole and several other stars.

The Dark Core is the most dust-choked region of the Lowiras Galaxy, and as such it is near-impossible to glean any information from outside. Due to the conflicting readings and the lack of returning spacecraft, it is impossible to discern anything useful about this region. Some conspiracy theorists speculate that the Lowiras Overlords arose from the anomalous space-folding in this region and/or have power over it, and are currently in hiding near the supermassive black hole.

Dusty Regions

The Dusty Regions are aptly named. They are filled with opaque dust, and as such are very difficult to map and traverse. Due to this, they are lawless regions uncontrolled by the State of Lowiras, and many believe that there are small uncontacted civilizations living deep within them. Once a craft enters the Dusty Regions, they are nearly impossible to find again, and navigation is incredibly difficult due to the infrared-hot dust.

Clear Zones

The Clear Zones are the regions of the Lowiras Galaxy that are mostly free of dust. They are mostly connected to each other, and are the only regions that are fully controlled by the State of Lowiras. They are distributed semi-randomly, but some unconnected sections of the Clear Zones surround high-mass stars that have blown away the dust clouds.

The Clear Zones are home to all the major planets of the galaxy, and are the most populated regions.

Halo

The galactic halo of the Lowiras Galaxy is the most spread-out and least dense region of the galaxy. It is loosely controlled by the SoL, and nothing much important is located here.

History

Formative Years and the Lareas Alliance

The Lowiras Galaxy is theorized to have formed roughly 12 billion years ago alongside its parent galaxy. It was then packed with a large number of highly massive stars, rendering the galaxy uninhabitable until roughly 10 billion years ago. Presumably, the first life in the galaxy started around this time, and no one has any idea what it was like because it died immediately.

Around seven billion years ago, the Lareas Alliance conquered the galaxy, and left little to no remaining artifacts before they were destroyed.

The Boring Times

The Boring Times is the period between the fall of the Lareas Alliance and the rise of the first modern civilizations, about which incredibly little is known. It is known that the Kaumann Empire had an outpost here in its heyday, as did the Providence Union. Aside from that, essentially nothing is known about this time period.

Rise of the Lowiras Overlords

In 14,733 CE, the first rocket was launched from the planet Kanden, heralding the beginning of the Krazalan space age. However, before they finished colonizing the Doret System, ten individuals known as the Lowiras Overlords materialized on the planet. These individuals had bizarre powers that allowed them to influence the thoughts of everyone within range of their signals, and declared themselves ruler of the civilization. Due to their powers, no one resisted.

Under the Overlords, colonization proceeded, and the State of Lowiras was founded. The Overlords also renamed Kanden to Lowiras, after themselves, as well as the galaxy itself. As it expanded, the Overlords took control of any new species that they found, until they controlled most of the Clear Zones of the galaxy. However, eventually a species which could resist the Overlords' signals was found, and this was the beginning of the end of their rule.

Griyosht Revolt and the Modern Day

The Griyosht species evolved on the planet of Vyli, and due to their unique brain structure were immune to the Lowiras Overlords' signals. When the State of Lowiras showed up above the planet, they actually managed to say no to the "offer" of joining the State of Lowiras. At this point, the Overlords believed they had absolute control over every individual in the SoL, and were thrown by this response.

Therefore, they brought out their before-then-useless military to occupy Vyli, a time remembered among Griyosht as the darkest period of their history. A small detachment of Griyosht traveled to Lowiras, attempting to overthrow the Lowiras Overlords. Because the Overlords did not believe that anyone not trapped on the surface of Vyli was even capable of thinking of attacking them, there was little to no guard outside the Overlords' headquarters.

They broke in through the ceiling, and after what was basically a fistfight, the Lowiras Overlords were sent into exile. Today, it is unknown where they are.
