"This planet is known as the World of Erudition and Preservation, the center of knowledge about mankind. Our past history and our present deads, all are to be found in this world, the big library of human knowledge. Even the planets name allures to that." - Yuva Marquez, Former Proconsul of the Alexandrian Network

New Alexandria is an terrestrial planet of the Confederacy of Borealis, belonging to the nation of Ravi-Anthrovia. It is located in the Via Sagittaria Galaxy.

It's one of the main worlds of humanity in the Core regions, being the most important in its region. It is a center of manufacturing, services, technology, shipbuilding, agriculture and mining. However, it is mostly known as one of the main center of learning and education, hosting some of the most important and prestigious Universities and Research Centers in the Confederacy.

New Alexandrian scientists and experts are well respected all over the nation and beyond. The people of this world are set to be cold but very methodical and rational, rather than emotional, although some variations exists from region to region.

The Planet was colonized with settlers from Aegyn. In turn they sent colonist to numerous worlds. One of the twelve colony ships that left for Herschel Space to settle Elpida and actually found the Lewis Nations came from here.

Right after the conflict a massive planetary settlement initiative arose in the planet, and many that had been damaged by the event embarked on colony ships to settled new worlds. As this war had taught them, they carried with them a copy of all the knowledge to date, to each and every world so to save it from possible destruction.

Origins and History

Discovery

Discovered in 1,623 BCE, this 1.7 billion year old planet was initially written off as a curiosity due to the unicellular forms of marine life in the planet’s oceans. However, a small group of scholars and scientists saw the planet as an opportunity to study its unicellular life. Soon they saw the planet as a plausible sanctuary to preserve all data about mankind’s past and present.

Early Colonization

A group of colonists chose to brave the decade long journey in order to establish a colony on the planet. They took with them vast databases filled with contemporary human knowledge as well as plant and animal specimens to seed the land with terrestrial life. Once they arrived in 1,009 BCE, they dismantled their ships as most colonists do and built their first city, a domed one called Hubbolt. Soon after, a much larger number of colonist arrived in subsequent massive colony ships from the Helyar System and, once the War of the Final Transition came to its peak, large numbers of refugees flowed to the planet as well.

Terraforming

This second wave of colonist brought with them terraforming equipment as the planet's to make the planet more suitable to human colonization. The use of local unicellular marine life was also used for the terraforming stages through complex biological processes.

During the terraforming decades, the colonist began to expand their settlements and adapt to the new conditions of their new home. New cities were founded and prosperity reached the colony. Conditions improved ever ten years and soon the colonist could walk outside without small breeding assistance.

With the Colonist firmly established, they began to not only store all information in their vast computers but also printed out books made of an indestructible form of paper called "Whixen". This new technology is used massively today to store knowledge to last millennia. They even “printed” out small slabs of stone with the information. They were not going to let any natural disaster take away their history.

The terraforming was completed in 3 CE. Large numbers of refugees continued to pour into the planet for millennia afterwards. As one of the few worlds touched by the War of the Final Transition, Alexandria became a valuable world filled with large numbers of people. To govern the rapidly expanding population, the inhabitants of the planet created what was known as the Alexandrian Republic, a small nation controlling New Alexandria and the surrounding systems. The government began work on space ports, orbital rings, space elevators, archologies, communication infrastructure, and large numbers of other projects with the intent of raising quality of life and making the planet even more valuable. Their policies worked and, by about 200 CE, the planet had reached a population of one trillion, almost all of which were refugees. The government then mandated recording all the information they could get from these refugees. Whether it was historical information, practical knowledge, or even simple things like recipes, the government recorded it all on the Whixen Paper.

Rise as a Core World

As millennia passed, the influx of information grew steadily and so did the colonists who were willing to live in a much quieter and more stable place in the galaxy. At the time, the Split of the Yohjan Confederacy was ravaging the galaxy, a point in history best defined as "international anarchy." Few nations could be described as stable. As such, refugees from all across human-controlled space flowed into New Alexandria, helping the documentation and backup of knowledge known in those days. Some of the New Alexandrians colonists moved latter to other worlds in the system, creating small scientific outposts and digging underground to build vast caverns of nothing but backup information in case anything happened to New Alexandria.

The Alexandrian government policies seemed to have been too successful, however. With the conclusion of the War of the Final Transition as a definitive Confederate loss, its enemies sought compensation. The largest enemy of the Yohjan Confederacy, The Empyrean, annexed a large portion of the territory once controlled by the Yohjan Confederacy, territory that they only wanted because of the untouched New Alexandria. This newly annexed area, simply called "Empyreal Anthovia," (a reference to the arm of the galaxy it was located in) had New Alexandria as its capital. It soon became the gem of The Empyrean as Ravis and Llæn colonists from the Empyrean began pouring into the region to escape their war-torn homeland. The population doubled within the next century and tripled in the next two, causing the world to become a proper ecumenopolis by 500 CE. The rapid change gave the local government, which was largely preserved, access to even more information from incoming Empyreal immigrants.

When the Lowuks Entente, another enemy of the Yohjan Confederacy, collapsed, the territory it annexed from the Yohjan Confederacy fell into disarray as well. Large numbers of Atlin and even Orcubor refugees were now coming onto New Alexandria, most of which having to live in orbital habitats due to the increased costs of living on the surface. This only furthered the value of the system as it became a center of stability and prosperity in the region, briefly achieving the highest habitability score in the galaxy before losing the title to the planet Jörmungandr.

Colonial expansion and Renewed Prosperity

The information on the planet was copied onto data banks taken by humans fleeing to the Lewis Galaxy, giving them access to rich banks of information lost in most other places in the galaxy. This was done not only to save it from destruction after the events witnessed by war, but to help the new stablished colony to flourish and prosper. Large numbers of colony ships had their origin from New Alexandria. One of which being the Lewisian ship that colonized Elpida. Other ships hailing from New Alexandria include the YCS Last Summer Whisper and the refurbished TRS Moon Signal.

Geography

City New Alexandria.png

The Planet has 4 continents: Halkabi, Yukon, Eraimen and Kolidar.

  • Yukon

A cold continent, it is mostly based around manufacturing, mining, chemical production energy and water. It is also home to a large touristic sector which spins around its natural beauty. A large military base also exist here. Most inhabitants are descendants of the second wave of migrants. Its capital city is Puerto Martinez.

  • Halkabi

Coastline in the Capital, the City of Magnus

Its the most populated continent, home to the capital building known as Magnus and the oldest settlement Hubbolt. The continent is lush and forested, with its economy based mostly on services, high-tech and research. Specially Research centers and others are famous here for the quality of their infrastructure, expanding several hundred kilometers and employing truly large numbers of individuals. The population is mostly descendant from refugees.

  • Eraimen

Its the most rural and is based on agriculture and food supply. It is as well an idyllic place for holidays among many New Alexandrians. The region is fairly low in population but very expensive to live in, with property values regularly exceeding life-time income stipends for average individuals on the planet.

However, there is also an important Biology center as well as a growing Pharmaceutical industry. Its people are said to be the happiest and the nicest of all. They are descendants for the most part of the second and third waves of immigration. Its capital city is Rostov.

  • Kolidar

Industrial areas in the city of Tilbissi

Kolidar one of the most populated and is mostly focused on services and other sort manufacturing and shipbuilding industries. It is also a source of mining and agriculture to some extend. It is home to some of the most famous Universities in the galaxy. The University of New Alexandria is based here and expands for thousands of kilometers, engulfing the city of Matparan, in which about a third of the population works for the University and about a quarter of the residents are either scholars, teachers or students. Its capital is the city of Tilbissi.

Population

Currently there are around 78 trillion inhabitants, the majority of which live in orbital habitats. The population has been growing steady but effectively. Many work in High-tech, others in Space exploration, in industry, in services, education, mining, and most importantly in research. Others supply the planet, maintaining the farms and the food supply. But some of the most important inhabitants are scholars who handle the influx of information from the Alexandrian Network. The most common sapient species on the planet is Humans followed closely by Ravis. Other common species include Llæns, Atlins, and Orcubor.

The scholars essentially run the planet, and do so very well. It is now a popular tourist attraction, as New Alexandria became famous after being the home of a great number of innovations especially after recent break-throughs in the field of Psychokinesis research.

Physical

With a diameter of 12754.3 km, the planet has a gravitational pull of 1.1 G. It has a semimajor axis of 1.1 AU and a year of 1.03 terrestrial years. Its local day was originally 14 hours and 30 minutes but after the orbital bombardment to slow the planet's rotation and alter the axial tilt, it became 1.005 standard days.

It once had an atmospheric pressure of 0.3 but some minor terraforming added more atmosphere to the planet giving it an earthlike atmospheric pressure of 1.3. It has a mean temperature of 22.6 °C. It has six moons, one of which is a warm deserted terra and the other being a temperate selena world.

Climate

Currently the planet is a temperate lush forest world with small cities all over the major continents. Due to its proximity to the galactic core, one can see stars even during the day.

In its past before terraforming the only lifeforms were the beginnings of native life in the oceans of the world. The land was desolate and lifeless.

The Alexandrian Network

The Alexandrian Network is the sum of all information stored on New Alexandria. The Split of the Yohjan Confederacy caused large amounts of information to be lost, so much so that almost all history before it is based mostly on archeological evidence and data stored on the rare untouched worlds such as New Alexandria. The data has proven invaluable to historians and archeologists alike, showing not only an accurate account of many historical events, but also from the perspective of many of the common folks involved.
