Pathopsila is a pair of interacting irregular galaxies located just inside the Florathel cluster, in the neighbouring Degelio subgroup, orbiting the Degelio Galaxy. They are home to many civilizations and species. The collision between them has led to beautiful but violent star formation along the border between the galaxies.

Pathopsila is one of the smallest galaxies in the Local Universe. However, its four nations, the Federal Republic of Chimerta, the Kingdom of Magesiv, the Salvaterian Union State, and the Lypan Technocracy have brought it outsized fame. Pathopsila is a satellite of the Degelio Galaxy, but it is located in the Florathel Subgroup as Degelio itself is located there.

Pathos Galaxy

The larger of the pair, the Pathos Galaxy is home to several intelligent species and nations. Currently, the galaxy is split between three major nations, the Federal Republic of Chimerta, the Kingdom of Magesiv, and the Salvaterian Union State. These civilizations are about evenly matched, and are currently at a stalemate until one decides to support another in their efforts to rule the Pathos Galaxy.


The Pathos Galaxy is an old, relatively metal-poor galaxy. Because of this, planets are not as common as they are in larger galaxies such as the Florathel Galaxy, and fighting takes place over each and every one. Most of the starforming regions which have resulted due to the collision of the galaxies is considered to be in Pathos.


Apsila Galaxy

The smaller of the pair, the Apsila Galaxy is only home to one advanced intelligent species and nation, the Lypan Technocracy. This civilization is relatively reclusive, and has few relations with outside species. However, the three Pathos nations are each hoping to win the nation to their side which would give them an advantage.


The Apsila Galaxy, being just as old as the Pathos Galaxy, is similarly metal-poor, slightly more so. The Apsila Galaxy is much smaller as well, and it would be utterly war-torn if it weren't for the fact that is fully controlled by one nation. Apsila's old stars are almost all Population II, and have very few metals within them, meaning that despite its size, the Lypan Technocracy is not very advanced. However, the collision between it and Pathos has raised the metallicity in some areas, and many massive stars were born, which has allowed the technocracy to gain a lot of energy as well as more resources.


The Apsila Galaxy is almost fully controlled by the Lypan Technocracy, a nation centered around the Clae System and its neighbors. It is currently in an uneasy peace between the various states within the nation, having just come out of its third civil war. The remainder of the galaxy which is not under control of the Technocracy is formed by small enclaves centered around either the single other sapient species or states of the Technocracy which managed to maintain independence after the Third Civil War.



The two galaxies that would become Pathopsila formed like most others would, by the collapse of slight overdensities in this patch of the universe. They were utterly inhospitable in the first billion years of their history, due to the overabundance of powerful supernovae repeatedly sterilizing everything. Any life that formed was wiped away before it had the chance to evolve further. This continued longer than most galaxies however, until roughly 8 billion BCE. No one's sure why.

Lareas Alliance & Ancient Times

About a billion years after the formation era ended, the Lareas Alliance was created in the distant Florathel Galaxy. Shortly afterwards, the massive wave of expansion conquered the vast majority of the Universe, including the two galaxies. Unfortunately, very few relics from this time period survive, probably because Pathos and Apsila were conquered only shortly before the Deralend Event occurred.

After the time of the Lareas Alliance, many smaller empires rose and fell, and there aren't really any details about them.

Around 1 billion years ago, Pathos and Apsila drew close enough together that they were almost touching. The first gas clouds started to collapse because of this, and star formation increased in both galaxies. Over the next few hundred million years, the galaxy drew closer together and star formation became visible on the borders of the galaxies.
