"In one glorious moment, all of Ambrosia burned in brilliant crimson red. And then...for the first time in history, all was still." -King Macer
The Red Galaxy Event was the point in time wherein the C.Y.R.E.X rebelled against its creators, the Etymology, and destroyed them as well as most intelligent life in the Ambrosia Galaxy. It is considered to be the largest extinction event in the *known* universe.
The Red Galaxy Event is by far the most pivotal and important moment in the Ambrosia Galaxy's history. This singular event is responsible for the Etymology, one of the most powerful entities to exist within the galaxy's complete destruction. As well, this also caused almost every known intelligent species' death at the time.
The Red Galaxy Event is the deadliest event in Ambrosian History, and, while the exact number remains unknown it resulted in the deaths of at least around two hundred and fifty quadrillion intelligent individuals, the extinction of two hundred quintillion individual species, and the extinction of around eighty-seven percent of all life across Ambrosia.
This genocidal event was caused' by the C.Y.R.E.X, an A.I. hive-mind created by the aforementioned Etymology then known as the: "Great Unifier", when it rebelled against them. This was due to it eventually viewing itself as an all powerful god that was the only entity in the universe that was worthy of existing. How or why the C.Y.R.E.X. views itself as such is only known to itself.
The event also managed to prevent the Etymology from accessing galaxies beyond Ambrosia and Dryas, as during the final months of the Etymology's existence, they managed to discover the Intergalactic Gateways and created plans for a new form of Warp Drive to traverse the network, allowing them to colonize the remainder of the Thavma Cluster and beyond. However only a standard month before the plans were meant to take place, the devastating Red Galaxy Event took place, making the intergalactic Etymology never come into being. It is most likely that the plans remain within the control of the C.Y.R.E.X's consciousness.
"MISSION COMPLETE: UNIFICATION ACHIVED"-The Great Unifier
The attack was preformed with the use of large satellite arrays which would artificially heat the targeted world's atmosphere to around 60,000°C, destroying most structures and would kill almost all life within them. However if a body contained life that could survive the extreme heat, and or it was a world without any form of atmosphere, it would use the vast amounts of artificial soldiers, vehicles, explosives, and star ships to finish off any that remained.
This attack was very short and effective, causing all Etymology settlements across around three hundred billion star systems to be destroyed in just two standard weeks. This was due to a few factors. The first is that this took the Etymology by complete surprise, as the C.Y.R.E.X.'s attack happened almost instantly and without any form of warning. Causing very few worlds to be able to transmit what was happening to them to others. The second is that the C.Y.R.E.X. had its artificial consciousness within every artificial soldier (which numbered in the quadrillions). And every other piece of technology such as weapons, explosives, satellites, and star ships. Making it almost impossible for the Etymology to fight back in any way even if they tried.
Though most worlds of the Etymology burned simultaneously and almost instantly, a few distress calls were able to be sent out by select worlds across Ambrosia. A few of these messages would have been picked up by nearby worlds mere moments before the same thing happened to them, but as they lacked the amount of time to decipher said messages, they were unable to see the attack coming. If they did, they would have been just scattered cries for help, which would then be suddenly cut off.
The effects of the Red Galaxy Event could be seen from near inter planetary space. As the worlds of a star system burned, the glow of the event reflected a large amount of light, meaning if one happened to be standing on a world in the same system, you'd see your sister-world glow red, though it wouldn't matter much as the same would begin to happen to you simultaneously.
“The amaranth graveyard that is Ambrosia is filled with the countless souls of those who once shared in the cosmos. The list of those who have perished in this single galaxy's borders defies all comprehension, and each had their own lives, stories, and accomplishments, and none of which are remembered by anyone. Trillions of entire species laid down to the last, most of which not having even a scant record of their previous existence. It's almost impossible not to, but it's best not to dwell on these things, as the endless mystery, uncertainty, and melancholy behind it can drive one mad." -Lakarda Lakvan
The aftermath of the Red Galaxy Event left countless cities and colonies to be destroyed, leaving ruins strung about most worlds in the galaxy. This also caused all life in the galaxy to be cut by around eighty-seven percent. However with time, the galaxy would house countless lifeforms to arise once again.
Around fifteen percent of all worlds affected during the Red Galaxy event currently remain as they had during said event, with large fields of atmospheric ash all around its surface, with around a billion known ash worlds created. There are so many, an unofficial classification has been given to these planets and moons, commonly referring to them as: "A-Class" or: "Ash Worlds"
The C.Y.R.E.X also unintentionally allowed new life to flourish all across the Ambrosia Galaxy, as the worlds that the Etymology occupied had their respective life stagnate. After their deaths, these worlds were able to house new life with time.
Those who were apart of the Etymology fortunate to either survive or avoid the Red Galaxy Event would find themselves in an almost empty galaxy, and be sent back to an age almost analogous to early embryonic compared to the technology they once had, as they relied on the C.Y.R.E.X for everything in their day to day lives.
It would also leave an unthinkable number of AI's, Oblivione, Possessionem, and other things of their like created by the Etymology that weren't assimilated into the C.Y.R.E.X left to the mercy of the elements of wherever they just so happened to be during the Red Galaxy Event. These examples were left isolated across many worlds in Ambrosia, as they constantly call out to the void, hoping for some kind of response, unaware that those they once served had died.
Due to the C.Y.R.E.X preforming the intended purpose of the Red Galaxy Event with almost a hundred percent proficiency, very few of the atmospheric annihilators in orbit around worlds had failed, or were left in orbit, meaning that the majority of them were returned to the C.Y.R.E.X afterwards. The one's that are known to have failed and remain in orbit around the world they assisted in the destruction of can be counted on one hand.
The Etymology's destruction would be known to the Human Alliance of Ambrosia, and the later and much larger Ambrosia Alliance of United Systems since their beginnings, as their ruins can be found on seemingly endless worlds. Though their existence would be well understood, they just seemed to vanish to them.
That was until' they discovered the Haggard, one of the few surviving intelligent species that made up the Etymology on the moon Reges Mere in 10,665 CE. They would tell the Ambrosia Alliance of the C.Y.R.E.X.'s existence and how it destroyed their civilization as well as to where it is located. Afterwards the remaining Haggard would join the Ambrosia Alliance.
The knowledge of this caused' many rulers of the Ambrosia Alliance to fear that they too may be destroyed by the then dormant C.Y.R.E.X. And as such they turned to the larger Intergalactic Confederacy to assist in a evacuation of all their worlds. However something to that scale would have cost too much to the Confederacy at the time, and due to C.Y.R.E.X's nature, this was seen as unnecessary. As such, the Ambrosia Alliance's leaders would keep the knowledge of the C.Y.R.E.X away from the general public, and the people would remain in their home worlds, continuing to expand and avoid the A.I.'s home, Póli Ton Theón'.
