Defense capability: The Isvoy is not a warship, although she can defend herself if necessary with her 56 light laser banks. This is just for defense only however, and thankfully she has not needed to use them as of yet. It's a good thing too, because she is severely outgunned compared to even light destroyers, hence the heavy shielding.

Armor rating: 2.1 out of 10; the Isvoy is lightly armored to repel attacks that penetrate the heavy shielding.

Shield Rating: 9 out of 10; the 24 shield emitters each have a Grade 10 rating, however protecting such a huge ship results in the degradation of the generated barrier.

Performance Data[]

Class 5 Wormhole Drive (with on-board wormhole generator)

Warp Drive top speed: 0.135LY/s; I.E. the warp drive is only good for exploring the Via Lacrimosa's neighborhood. A standard trip to the Ventemir Galaxy from the center of the Via Lacrimosa takes around 2 decades at top speed.

Endurance: Up to 5 years with no station visits, 7 years with only refuels at a brown dwarf, more if it is refueled/restocked at a station.

The Fuel[]

The Wormhole Drive runs on 15 petawatts of electricity generated by the onboard generator, which itself uses a highly-volitile helium neutride sphere about 1 meter in diameter. There is no chance of an explosion on the ship as it is kept stable with powerful force fields and is in a massive sphere-shaped chamber 400 meters in diameter. This is the power plant for the rest of the ship. Installing one of these spheres is an extremely hazardous occupation; if safety protocols are not followed, the resulting explosion could wipe out everything within 50 kilometers.

The helium neutride fuel used starts out with a harmless helium atom. Then, neutrons collected from a particle accelerator are slammed into the helium, and the atom is forced to hold exactly 100,000 neutrons. Electrons collected from other atoms are then used to bind the neutrons to keep the massive atom as stable as possible. It then goes into a nanocopier, and then to a manufacturing plant when enough material is collected, where they fashion it into a 1-meter core. The on-board converter can convert brown-dwarf plasma into the helium needed.

Terraforming Capability[]

The Isvoy is not a dedicated terraforming ship. While most terraforming ships can transform a world with an ESI score as low as 0.1, she only carries enough gases and equipment to terraform planets that have a score of 0.8 and up. Those planets likely can be lived on by humans anyway, so Captain Lerienne sees little need to use her terraforming capability.

Heat Resistance[]

The Isvoy is rated to stand temperatures as high as an L7-class brown dwarf, 100 meters from the surface, and as hot as a M9-class red dwarf, anywhere above 200,000 kilometers of the surface to the edge of the photosphere. Anything cooler than T0 can be landed on directly, although it takes massive landing "floats" for the magma until a T3, when the surface is cool and solid enough for her to land without floats.

When in the atmosphere of a star, the windows are covered with a radiation-absorbing material.

Sublight propulsion[]

The two massive engines the Isvoy has put out enough thrust to propel her to over 80% the speed of light, useful for intra-system exploration. They are also equipped with thrust reversers for easy stopping power, and are among the most powerful engines on any starship.

She also has 16 smaller auxiliary engines, which she uses for finer-tuned movements that are far too small for the main engines. These are used for docking, where precision control is a necessity due to the size of the ship. Without these auxiliary engines during docking, a station could be accidentally destroyed due to a control input malfunction. They can also be used as main propulsion should the 2 main engines require maintenance or in an emergency, although these only push the Isvoy up to 10% of the speed of light.

Navigation Systems[]

The Isvoy has state-of-the-art navigation systems, capable of resolving any object, anywhere in the universe, down to the centimeter scale. It uses observation computers, and a very large 1-kilometer wide receiving dish on the underside of the ship, hooked up to an array of signal strengthening antennas directly behind the dish. This entire assembly is connected to a data parser that makes sense of the information it is receiving, and sends it to the main shipboard computer.

Retirement[]

The Isvoy was retired in 12110 CE, since she was aging rapidly as the millennia passed. In 12100, she was already considered a shadow of her former self, but still embarked on missions of discovery. She has served under 3 different captains over the years beginning with Captain Lerienne, who then passed the reins down to her son, the late Admiral Khier. He then passed control down to a promising crewmember whose name has been lost over time. He retired with the ship. During the decommissioning ceremony, many ships flew past her in salute, most owned by the Confederacy of Borealis, some owned by civilians wanting to take part in the action.

After the ceremony, the nearly-depleted Helium Neutride sphere was deemed not a health hazard, and was not removed from the vessel. Tours of the ship include it's chamber as one of the first stops. Her powerful computer system was put into extreme safe mode.

She was, however, fortunate enough to receive the official re-certification as a "Museum Station". Many important historical ships received this distinction, and are scattered around the Helyar System. Isvoy was stationed in Aegyn's orbit, and was redesignated "Isvoy Museum Station". All of her thousands of discoveries are on display, and it is a popular stop with college students studying to become spacecraft engineers, tourists visiting Aegyn, even life from other worlds wanting to get a glimpse of this incredible ship.

Later Retirement[]

By the 20000's, the ship was still being maintained by a small group of enthusiastic volunteers, not willing to let this important historical relic fall out of knowledge. However, as the ship's power source got weaker, it got increasingly difficult to maintain the kilometer-long ship. A meeting was convened to figure out what to do, and it was decided to commission a small station elsewhere in orbit to contain all of the valuable information collected by the Isvoy, and leave her to the elements.

The Isvoy was shut down permanently on January 31, 22034, and her location concealed with a cloaking field. Isvoy Memorial Station was onlined later that year, and continues the legacy of the ship.
