Due to the large gaps between stars, conventional slower than light communication simply did not allow for any empire to exist larger than a single star system. Upon the advent of Faster than Light travel technology, ships employing the technology acted as messengers between worlds. In many places, true faster than light communication independent of space craft took far longer to develop for a number of reasons, the largest of which was simply cost of production.
Instant Communication refers to a class of technology that is not instant, only effectively so between interplanetary distances where the technology was first tested. Allowing for communication at one kilo-light-year per minute, instant-communication is a game changer for galactic civilizations, allowing for speedy communication over all but the most vast of empires. Intergalactic travel is still very slow with the technology.
Instant Communication, as it is known in Via Sagittaria, works by shining a laser beam through four dimensional space to a receiver, set in four dimensional space as well. Essentially, the beam takes a shortcut through 4D space, analogous to how wormholes work. While simple in concept, manufacture of these devices is incredibly challenging, involving the usage of specially designed wormholes and truly large energy output. Typically, these devices are produced in large factories around Supergiant stars.
Stationed weaponry is a term used for weapons that are stationed on specific mounts, such as on spacecraft, buildings and turret mounts. Stationed weaponry is far more hazardous that handheld weaponry. Regardless of type, all stationed weapons are placed in different mounts which determine how they aim at targets.
Fixed weapons are the most powerful of the three categories, but they have limited tracking capability because they shoot straight forward and can only track a few degrees when the target is within the weapon's scope. Fixed weapons rely significantly on the ship's maneuverability and one's aiming skills as a result, however they are less expensive, consume less power, emit less heat, and every weapon is available in a fixed mount when compared to other weapon mount types.
Gimballed weapons are installed within a semi-flexible component that allows for limited pitch, yaw, and roll of the weapon within specified arcs determined by both the mount's position and the assembly itself. Gimbal-mounted weapons can retain track of targets within a decently-sized radius right in front of the mounting, making them a little easier to handle than fixed mounts, albeit they are not as flexible as turrets. Gimbal weapons, on the other hand, are often weaker than fixed weapons and are sensitive to a variety of countermeasures that disrupt the weapon's ability to track the target.
Turrets are auto-firing semi-independent weapons with a 360-degree field of fire. Standard turrets are self-contained and do not require an operator. Turrets are often far more expensive than fixed and gimballed weaponry. Turrets consume the most power of all three weapon kinds, with fixed consuming the least and gimballed consuming the most, but they deal the least damage. They can also be controlled manually by a single individual.
Multi cannons are kinetic projectile-firing machine guns with a small caliber. Multi cannons use less energy, produce less heat, and have a wider range than energy weapons, but they have a finite supply of ammo that must be refilled.
Multi cannons discharge a continuous barrage of rounds that are fairly easy to keep on target and may be fired simultaneously with other, more energy-hungry weaponry like lasers, making them a popular armament among pilots. At a distance, their damage does not diminish as quickly as that caused by laser guns. The maximum range of most multi cannons is 5000 meters, with damage diminishing after 2500 meters. Most multi cannons have a projectile velocity of 1600 m/s.

Repulsor Field Generator
The repulsor field generator, often referred to simply as a repulsor, is an advanced and common anti-gravity technology capable of levitating an object. In order to work, the repulsor would create fields of negative gravity called 'repulsor fields', which push against an object's natural gravitational field. This is done with easily-made artificial particles called anti-gravitons. To effectively operate, repulsor Field Generators would need to be in the gravity well of a celestial object, as they would need a force to repulse against.
A high amount of vehicles of advanced civilizations make use of repulsor Field Generators, as most of the time, they are fairly cheap to make, and are way more effective than tracked or wheeled vehicles. Vehicles that operate on repulsor Field Generators are called repulsorcraft. On starships, repulsor field generators are a secondary form of propulsion, used for atmospheric flight and docking procedures.
Absorption shields are energy fields that are translucent or transparent and are created by specialized generators. Megastructures, planets, starships, space stations, individual buildings, and more may all be outfitted with these generators. The primary aim of an absorption shield is to defend the object underneath shielding against laser and plasma-based attacks. Many civilizations employ absorption shielding as their primary shielding technology since absorption shields can effectively protect against a wide range of threats.
Absorption shields effectively absorb all forms of radiation, rendering absorption shielding technology a commonly used method of radiation shielding. Absorption shields are also capable of completely absorbing all laser and plasma-based weapons strikes. An absorption shield will burn out if it receives too many strikes and will need to be recharged.
The strength of an absorption shield is determined by the distance between the shield and the projector, the projector's performance, the power supplied, and the shield's surface area. Absorption shields on spacecraft are commonly projected a few centimeters beneath the hull armor before being extended outwards to maintain hull integrity. Starship Absorption shields can withstand huge quantities of energy and punishment, however they may be destroyed by concentrating fire on a single spot. Absorption shields on various structures are oftentimes incredibly difficult to disable, while absorption shields protecting megastructures are nearly impossible to destroy.
The discovery of superluminal technology has been the must fundamental achievement in most sapient species's history. Superluminal technology allows spacecraft to propel to superluminal speeds with superluminal drives. As there are many various forms to achieve superluminal velocities, each superluminal drive operates in a different way.
The most prevalent fuel for these numerous superluminal drives is exotic matter, though dark matter can also be employed on occasion. Superluminal drives will only rarely use a fuel that isn't one of the two, with only a few exceptions that have survived the passage of time.

Recurrent Nova Engine
A Recurrent Nova Engine is a mega-structure that utilizes repeated artificial novae as a power source. This power source most commonly uses white dwarfs as a core. Research into using other objects such as neutron stars or black holes are ongoing. Such objects are the crowned jewels of any civilization to create them. The sheer quantity of the energy produced dwarfs even the largest of Dyson Swarms.
The idea of using Novae as a power source comes to almost every species just as the idea of englobing stars in Dyson Swarms does. Most species, however, simply never grow to control enough energy to even seriously consider the technology. Only the largest of civilizations are able to create them. Currently, they are used for the mass-production of elements beyond iron that a fusion reaction would absorb energy for. The power of a regular star is used within seconds to create large portions of iron. Anything beyond that takes ludicrous amounts of power. For most of history, these materials were simply harvested from moons or asteroids. Having this technology is a game-changer on the galactic stage.
A dyson sphere is a colossal sphere constructed around a star, completely surrounding it. The interior of the sphere would absorb the entire energy output of that star, allowing for lifeforms to live on the interior surface almost indefinitely. Many dyson spheres are used by a spacefaring civilizations to meet their energy requirements once those requirements exceed what can be generated from the home planet's resources alone. Only a tiny fraction of a star's energy emissions reach the surface of any orbiting planet. The collected energy can be beamed to remote locations for use in life support, industry, computational processing, or transport; these beams can also be used for defense or communication.
The Aura Colonyship is a type of spacecraft designed for colonization purposes in the Lewis Nation known as the Empire. These ships have been created with the task of being perfectly self-sustainable for the longest of expeditions. Aura Colonyships are also effective for creating new colonies on foreign worlds. Their engines may be utilized to provide electricity to the colony, and many of the ship's features, such as agricultural domes, can be used to produce food and other vital resources. This product is so successful that these ships are one of the main exports of the Empire of Mankind all across the Universe.
Scientific Procedures & Processes
Cloning is the process of duplicating an organism into one or many genetically identical individuals known as clones. In order to create a clone, samples of genetic code have to be drawn from a subject's cells, duplicated and implanted into donor cells. These donor cells would then grow, divide and, eventually gestate in artificial wombs, filled with nutrients and organic catalysts. Altering the nutrients and catalyst solutions that the cells received can influence the physical attributes and maturation rates of the resulting clone.
The Lewis Nations have some of the biggest cloning operations in the entire universe as of today. The technology for successful viable cloning existed long time ago, but was barely used and was rescued and perfected later on by the Lewis Nations. Most notably, after the Great Slave Revolt of the Empire of Mankind to produce viable sources of Slaves for the Empire. Since the first cloning operations, this technology has been subsequently polished and improved. The Lewisian nations who make great use of this technology and have improved it quite substantially are the Empire of Mankind and the Republic of Sion. The Plutocracy used the technology until the Great Revolution occurred in that nation, which has since then seen a sharp decrease in cloning. The mastery of this art has made the Lewis Nations famous all across the known nations. In fact they have become the best cloners in the universe.
Ectogenesis is a technological process in which an organism is grown in an artificial environment, outside the body in which it would normally be found to grow within. For example, the growth of a Human fetus or embryo outside the uterus of a Human female. This also applies to other living organism, such as the growth of bacteria outside the body of a host. This method of reproduction requires an artificial uterus that would allocate an interface able to supply the nutrients and the oxygen needed to nurture the fetus, as well as a way to dispose of waste material. It also allows to shortened the pregnancy time and the viability of a fetus. This technology is mostly used by the cloning industry of the Empire of Mankind, the Plutocracy of Gish or the Republic of Sion. It is forbidden in the Union and partially so in the United Alliance and the Intergalactic Federation.
Avasteel is a metal alloy made up of titanium, steel, and vaarium that is especially powerful and adaptable. Even when exceptionally thin, it can survive scorching heat, freezing cold, and massive physical stress. Avasteel is utilized for everything from minor infantry armor to spacecraft hulls because of these qualities. It will, however, deteriorate in the same way as inferior metal alloys and will require regular maintenance in the same fashion.
